Abstract
A proposal for a new motorboat aiming to redefine the way we spend time at sea and the way we experience it. The concept focus is aiming to enhance the boating experience by offering closeness to the sea and to the surroundings.
Inspiration
Some initial user quotes and common keywords that attract people to sea are: the experience of nature, relaxation, the feeling of liberty and community. These are some of the notions that formed this project.
The Stockholm archipelagos have been the main source of inspiration, a world of more than 30000 islands, islets and skerries. It is from this scene the concept was developed, aiming to give freedom to explore the miracle of nature by bringing you closer to it.
Method
Through a close contact with the user during the whole process of the project, I obtained an understanding of the target users’ relationship to the sea. The aim was to identify change in behaviour towards the life at sea in order to develop a relevant concept that meet their needs, wants and dreams.
Result
The result is a proposal of a new type of architecture and lifestyle experience on-board. A leisure boat pushing for spacious living dimensions with focus on exploring a new way of living on the sea with the goal of reaching complete freedom.
The concept is focusing more on being easy-going and spontaneous in its use than anything else: A conscious way of living where a sense of wellbeing and peace of mind is a key. It is designed with quite a simple aesthetic but there are touches throughout the boat that give personality and playfulness associated with the Stockholm archipelagos. It is all about being easy going, exploring shortcuts and not seeing the destination as the only goal of the trip.
