Abstract
A Construction vehicle with Eco-Driving profile
The year is 2025 and by using GPS-information in three dimensions the truck’s driveline is adapted to road conditions. It contains concept visualizations of how a dynamic exterior based on Eco-Driving features could look like. The exterior changes appearance according to the driving situation.
Inspiration
Eco Identity is a vehicle inspired by airplane structure shape, and the composition of an alligator’s body. Also, it is a blend between Volvo's design identity and the characteristics of eco elements such as biotechnology that offers less energy consumption.
Method
The design process revolved around a strong research phase, where I absorbed essential eco-driving elements, interviewed heavy construction truck drivers, and obtained an understanding of all functions of construction vehicles. The Eco identity will become an influential eco-focused construction vehicle, spreading the message that eco driving can be achieved by Volvo vehicle management system, the Volvo Share.
Result
Volvo Share system helps to transform the vehicle to make the most appropriate configuration every time. It is a pre-transformation. It will create lightweight vehicle configuration by changing cargo box & chassis. It will affect the gas mileage of the vehicle. Also, the life cycle of vehicle parts will become longer because they work only as much as needed.
Also, this vehicle is transforming by itself while it’s running. It changes the height of the chassis, wheels, bumper and even the cabin space because the environment is changing while it’s running on the road. It will have better airflow of the body, an improved protection of radiator grill in the construction areas where there exist a lot of dirt, and the approach & departure angle on rough roads will also be enhanced. Furthermore, the transformation system protects the chassis of the vehicle to reduce maintenance cost.
